The requirement for a person competent to manage your health and safety procedures and provide advice and instruction, as and when required, is becoming even more important in these days with increased penalties for breeches of Safety Law being dealt out by the Courts.
Section 7 of the Management of Health at Work Regulations 1999 requires companies to have access to such advice and instruction.

I began my career in Health and Safety when I applied to the London Borough of Southwark for a position running their pest control section. As a former Senior Serviceman with Rentokil I was aptly qualified for this role. Following a discusion with the Principal Environmental Health Officer I changed roles and joined their General Services section performing health and safety inspections. Several years and lots of College and Exams later I became a Member of both IOSH and IIRSM.
In the following 40 years I have held senior Health and Safety positions in Local Authorities and Commercial companies.
I now work as a private consultant to a variety of companies, who with my assistance have achieved and maintain accreditation to the International and National Standards listed below, I also act as their Competent Person under the Management of Heath and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
